How to connect Samsung The Frame TV remote in Bluetooth mode

How to connect Samsung The Frame TV remote in Bluetooth mode

When using a wooden frame with your Samsung Frame TV, it’s essential to understand how it may impact both the TV and its Remote functionality. You might be concerned that the frame could cover the sensors and cause issues with performance. However, this isn't a problem as there’s a simple solution to ensure everything works perfectly, so you can enjoy your TV without any interruptions.

Is your TV Sensor functionality not working properly?

  • When using a wooden frame, the motion and light sensor on your Samsung Frame TV may be covered, which results in automatic brightness adjustment feature and motion detection function being less responsive. The motion detection feature turns the TV on when it senses movement in the room and turns it off when there’s no movement for a while. This is often used to enhance the experience in Art Mode, where the TV behaves more like a piece of artwork, only turning on when you’re nearby. But it is often inconsistent, even without a frame, and most users do not rely on it.

  • If motion detection is essential for your setup, Samsung offers an external motion and light sensor that can be purchased separately. However, we recommend testing your TV with the frame before considering this purchase - most customers find it unnecessary.

  • A wooden frame also covers the infrared (IR) sensor, which is the default method your TV remote uses to communicate with the TV. While IR pairing is the initial setup mode, it is generally recommended to switch to Bluetooth pairing for a more reliable performace, regardless of whether you use a wooden frame. However, if you do install a wooden frame, Bluetooth mode becomes essential, as IR signals will be blocked.

Pairing the Frame TV remote via Bluetooth is more advantageous than using infrared (IR)

The Samsung Remote is intended to be used in Bluetooth mode. When you first get your TV your remote works in infrared (IR) and once you setup your TV for the very first time it should automatically pair to Bluetooth when you bring the remote closer to the TV's sensor. In case unpairing happens, it will switch back communicatinig via IR signals.

Here are the reasons pairing via Bluetooth works best:

  • Range and Flexibility: bluetooth allows for a greater range and flexibility in controlling your TV, even if there are obstacles like the wooden frame. Unlike IR, which require a clear line-of-sight to the TV sensor, Bluetooth can work through walls, furniture, and even without direct visibility of the TV.
  • Less Interference: since Bluetooth is a digital signal, it is less prone to interference from other household electronics, ensuring a more stable connection.

Since Art Mode is about displaying static images, the TV may not always need motion detection. Bluetooth will still let users control the TV without the need for precise sensor detection.

How to find out if you're in IR mode?

To determine whether your remote is in Bluetooth or IR mode, look for the red status light on your remote. If you have our EventFrame wooden frame and you're in IR mode, the remote will only work when you're very close to the TV. In such cases, you can check the red light on the remote (it may be hard to see in bright sunlight, so try shading it with your hand for a better view). If you don’t spot the light, the issue could be the remote’s battery, so ensure the battery is fully charged first. If the remote is in IR mode, follow the pairing steps below to switch it to Bluetooth. Additionally, if the red light flashes for a few seconds after pressing a button, this isn't an indication of IR mode, but instead suggests a potential need for a factory reset.

Switching to Bluetooth Remote Functionality

How to Enter Pairing Mode

  1. Aim the remote at the bottom of the TV (where the sensor is located).
  2. Press and hold the Back and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously.
  3. Continue holding both buttons for 4-7 seconds until the TV begins searching for the remote and pairing initiates.
  4. After pairing is complete, your remote will operate in Bluetooth mode.

Tip: There might be cases where you might need to reconnect your remote, such as after a firmware update or if the remote stops responding.

How to Exit pairing mode

To unpair the remote, press and hold the Back and Play/Pause buttons for 4-7 seconds. Follow the pairing process above to reconnect it.

Are you using Bluetooth but the remote is not working?

In case you are paired in Bluetooth but your TV is not responding or being slower than it should be, it might need a reset.

In conclusion, while a wooden frame on your Samsung Frame TV might cover some sensors, ensuring your remote is paired via Bluetooth resolves any potential control issues. This allows you to enjoy the aesthetic of the frame without compromising the TV's functionality.
